Event Name:
Safe Schools Initiative Presentation

Description:
The United States Secret Service will be delivering a presentation on the Safe Schools Initiative on Wednesday, June 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Neumann University's campus in Aston, PA.  The event is significant because it marks the first time that the Secret Service will deliver this special school safety training presentation on the East Coast.
I am writing on behalf of Neumann University to extend an invitation to you and your staff to attend.  In addition, I am helping to coordinate outreach efforts and would also your assistance sharing details of the event -- included in the attached event flyer -- with the members of  the Association of School Psychologists of Pennsylvania, as well as any other individuals that you think would be interested in attending this free program.  Attendees will also be eligible to receive Act 48 credits.

We expect approximately 1,000 individuals from the Mid-Atlantic region to attend the free program featuring presentations on school safety issues from the Secret Service's National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC), National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI), and the Childhood Smart Program. Attendees will include school administrators, counselors, psychologists, educators, resource officers, law enforcement officers, and fire and emergency services personnel, as well as the general public.
The day-long event will include presentations from the Secret Service on three major components:
  • A presentation from the National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) on creating a targeted violence prevention plan; promoting a safe school climate; identifying concerning and prohibited behaviors; developing a threshold for law enforcement interventions in school threat assessments; and formulating risk management options.
  • A presentation from the National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI) addressing the development of a robust cybersecurity plan to deal with the threat of school violence; incident response and reporting; and preparing for and combatting cyber threats.
  • A presentation from the Childhood Smart Program outlining educational outreach efforts and materials for schools, parents, and children; the NetSmartz program which educates parents and children about online safety, responsible internet use, and cyberbullying; and Operation Safe Kids, which offers "Livescan Child ID."
